The oldest oak trees are over 1000 years old. It is more common for oak trees to reach a couple hundred. Oak trees are believed to represent longevity, strength, and wisdom.
The term 'graphic novel' is very new. Bookstores didn't begin designating 'graphic novels' as a genre until the early 2000s. Some of the most prominent comics artists actually prefer the term 'sequential art' or just plain 'comics.' If we consider comics to be a series of images that tell a story, cave paintings and Egyptian hieroglyphics would count as some of the earliest examples of the art form. That would make comics thousands of years old!
